Primer is the foundation of a good paint job. It improves paint adhesion to the surface (preventing peeling), seals porous surfaces (reducing paint consumption), evens out surface irregularities, enhances colour richness and extends the overall lifespan of the paint. Without primer, even the best emulsion paint can peel, crack or look uneven within months. A quality primer can reduce total paint required by 15–20%.

Yes. Hydro Guard Pro and Crystal Prime are suitable for both interior and exterior surfaces. Hydro Guard Pro is especially recommended for exterior walls due to its superior water-repellent properties. Trust Prime is best suited for interior use. For exterior applications, always ensure the primer is fully cured before applying the topcoat emulsion.

After applying OP konzept primer, wait a minimum of 4–6 hours (at 30°C) for hard dry before applying the first coat of emulsion. In humid conditions or during monsoon, allow 8–12 hours to ensure complete drying. Painting over wet or incompletely dried primer is the most common cause of poor paint adhesion and peeling. Do not apply primer on wet walls.

In most cases, one coat of primer is sufficient on a properly prepared surface. For highly porous surfaces (like old brick, rough plaster or bare cement), a second coat may be needed to achieve uniform sealing. For new construction, always apply primer after the plaster has fully cured (28 days for cement plaster). Fill cracks and surface defects before priming.

Coverage varies by product and surface condition. As a general guide, our primers cover 100–150 sq.ft per litre on a smooth surface. Rough or porous surfaces may require more product. Always stir the primer well before use, and dilute as per the instructions on the product (typically 20–30% water for water-based primers). Do not over-dilute, as this reduces bonding strength.

Hydro Guard Pro is formulated with water-repellent properties that help reduce surface moisture penetration. However, for walls with active water seepage, rising dampness or roof leakage, we recommend our dedicated waterproofing range (Damp Aqua Safe or Cool Care Ultra) as the primary treatment before applying primer and topcoat. Using Hydro Guard Pro after waterproofing treatment gives the best long-term results.

Yes, in most cases. If existing paint is in good condition (no peeling, flaking or bubbling), you can clean the surface, lightly sand it and apply a coat of primer before repainting. If old paint is peeling or chalky, remove the loose paint completely down to the base surface, repair any damage, then prime before applying the new emulsion coat. This ensures proper adhesion of the new paint.

Stir the primer thoroughly before use. Dilute with clean water as recommended (20–30% for most products). Apply using a brush, roller or spray. Work from top to bottom — ceiling first, then walls. Apply in smooth, even strokes and avoid over-brushing. One coat is typically sufficient. Allow to dry completely (4–6 hrs) before applying the emulsion topcoat. Clean tools immediately with water after use.
